I am very excited about our first (resurrected) technical meeting. Dylan and I have prepared some excellent presentations. It has been a lot of work (a lot more than I had anticipated), but I can see the payoff. Perl has given me so much, it's great to able to give back again.
Well things are moving along with TB.PM. I scouted out a great location for our Tampa Social Meetings. The Dubliner Pub has good vibe and plenty of outdoor seating. I am looking forward to the meeting tomorrow, although I expect the turnout to be about 5-10. I'm realistic about it. It's tough starting up a group like this once it's been on hiatus for 2+ years.
The content of technical meeting is shaping up nicely and if the history of PDX.PM serves us, the attendance will pick up at the technical meeting. I am very excited about Dylan's talk, MooseX::Declare and Moose really remove the valid core objections of the Perl dissenters. They bring a lot of the bondage & discipline of Java but still keep the power of Perl at your hand.
I also hope my talk can "reach across the aisle". Self-documenting code is definitely the most language agnostic facet of refactoring. It's based of of my talk I gave at the Perl Oasis Conference.
It's going to be an uphill battle to get this group back on it's feet, but I am determined to do it.
